Our primary focus is to provide landowners with forest management options that produce better economic and ecological outcomes over the long-term, but are also now advising and implementing plans for smaller residential projects.
Our History
One Woodland Inc was incorporated in 2020, but began as a forest farm run by Jamie Gillespie and his wife Tanya Romero. Together they explored a variety of stewardship techniques, developing deep relationships with the flora and fauna of the region. Today, Tanya Romero is focused on her food as medicine lab, Woodland Pantry, in Kingston New York. Jamie and Tanya continue to support each other’s work and dream into a better world where people and the planet thrive together.
What we do
Ginseng Propagation
One Woodland president Jamie Gillespie has extensive in forest farming, with a focus on wild-simulation ginseng. Having worked for and managed teams for what became the largest wild-simulation ginseng operation in the world under the late ginseng expert Robert Beyfuss, few have the experience, insight, and drive to advise on wild-simulation ginseng farming that we do.
Forest Restoration
Our landscape is undergoing an incredible transformation and it’s up to us to ensure that it goes well. We are tuned in to deep forest time, the changes occurring on a local level, and the processes that need to be observed and managed to produce a thriving forest environment.
Invasive Species Management
Invasive species sprawl is advancing at unprecedented rate in our region. Research shows that several invasive species, in conjunction with other imbalances, are having concerning impacts on native biodiversity and the overall holding capacity for life on the land. Producing thriving habitats often starts with a plan to manage the most deleterious aggressive species.
Native Biodiversity Plantings
Not only beautiful, native plant diversity serves as a critical building block for all other species in the ecosystem. Even the soil biology becomes more biodiverse amidst a diversity of native plants. With a background in biomimicry and agriculture, we have the experience to rewild your property with effective and efficient strategies.
Partnerships
Producing a healthy bioregion is both a responsibility and human right. No individual or company has a claim over this work and its success is determined largely by how the community as a whole understands and responds to these issues. We are in this together and One Woodland is both fortunate and proud to be in region with so many talented and inspired organizations and operators.
Regenerative Rural Economic Development
There is a boundless amount of opportunity and good work to be done in our bioregion. Producing not jobs, but careers that can afford workers the financial security and well balanced lives they deserve to dedicate themselves to this important and demanding work is core to One Woodland’s mission.
